Even on this famous night it’s possible to have fun at home. This booklet from the mid 20th century is proof, because you can be the “Life of the Party!”
Presented with the complements of a company called “Three Feathers. First among fine whiskeys,” this pamphlet is full of songs, games, quizzes and fun! Unlike my “Tipple Tips”brochure, this one did not contain a copyright so I don’t know what year it was issued. By the looks of the drawings, I’m guessing the early to mid-20th century.
The pamphlet claims that this is “your complete guide to party fun!The following pages are crammed full of those fine old song favorites that everyone loves to sing— in addition to games, quizzes, contests, recipes: in short everything you need (except the necessary quantities of that good Three Feathers Whiskey) to make every party an outstanding success! Keep this booklet handy whenever you entertain. It’s an easy way to make sure that yours will always be the first among fine parties!”
The party starts with “The Song Game.” These games turn music into impromptu quiz shows, with the winner getting a fabulous prize.
If you have a piano, here is some sheet music so you can play an old favorite, “My Darling Clementine.”
Next, comes a piece of trivia. I’ve always wanted to learn about the first steamboat.
Of course, right after that is sheet music for the song “Sailing Sailing!”
Then more trivia, relating to sports and politics.
Next, famous and not so famous “First” events.
Now to the fun part, the cocktails. Here are recipes for six different concoctions.
Since this brochure was handed out by a whiskey company, of course they have a special section devoted to trivia about whiskey. What a surprise?
After all this hard thinking, everyone will need more drinking.
And those cocktails will come in handy when one tries to figure out how to answer some of these “Parlor Problems.”
Here are more puzzles you can have fun with
No one should spend the whole evening just sitting around, so get up and going with these action games.
When you’re done stumbling around the living room, here are some more songs to play on the piano.
Followed by another not-so-famous “First” event.
We have now reached the end of our pamphlet, but the tips contained within guarantees a delightful time will be had by all for many New Year’s to come. Because the best fun, is classic fun. Fun guaranteed to make you the “Life of the Party.”
And fun you will always find with GVS, Glorious Vintage Stuff!
